-1534, 478th anniversary of French explorers Jacques Cartier's planting of a cross on the Gaspé peninsula (in modern Canada) and claiming it for France.

- 1567, 445th anniversary of 1-year old James VI ascending to the Scottish crown after Mary I abdicates, he would later be English king as well after Elizabeth I dies.

-1910, 102th anniversary of the end of the Albanian revolt, put down by the ottoman empire, the revolt will inspired Albanian independence in 1914.

-1923, 89th anniversary of the treaty of Lausanne, defining the borders of Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria.

-1969, Apollo 11 lands in the ocean.

-1977, end of the Libyan-Egyptian war.

-2005, Lance Armstrong wins the Tour de France.
